Nut-Free Balls of Fun (high protein)

It’s time that I admit I lost my blogging touch for awhile. Truthfully, I felt lost in this space. There are so many blogger/health coaching resources out there that tell you “the best” way to position yourself in this field. It became really clear to me that I couldn’t be both a food blogger AND a health coach.

Something else just recently became very clear to me too… The fact that I need to do my OWN THANG.

I’m a coach to mothers + want-to-be mothers that feel like they’ve lost themselves in their journey of motherhood. I’m ALSO a food blogger that creates nutritious food that will support them on that journey!

I can be both – so I WILL be.

I’m getting my blogging game back with these Nut-Free Balls of Fun aka energy balls, bites, fat bombs (but not really)… I don’t care what you call them, just as long as you make them.

They have a perfect combination of slow + fast digesting carbs, healthy fats and protein to keep your satiated while you’re kicking ass and taking names.

or just tacking your to-do list… which is pretty much the same thing.

The name ‘energy balls’ originated because a balanced ball will give you energy to keep on moving on. These beauties are no different…I just really like calling them what they are. Balls of fun because playing with food is SO MUCH FUN.

Let’s talk about how I made them “balanced” – essentially a good ratio of carbs, fats and protein:

I used gluten-free oats as the base which are a great slow digesting carb. To give these beauties a little sweetness, I used three ingredients:
1) dates
2) maple syrup
3) semi-sweet dairy-free chocolate chips
These are going to work as fast digesting carbs to give you the energy you need ASAP.

We’ve all been there, when the hanger strikes – the hanger strikes.

Fats are being taken care of by the sunflower seed butter (sunbutter), chia seeds and flax seeds. Fats help in aiding us to feel “fuller for longer”. The chia and flax seeds will also give us a great source of fiber. Fiber helps us poop peeps! A healthy digestive system makes for a happy lady.

Lastly we’re going to talk about protein. Protein (specifically collagen) is known to help support muscle recovery, joint health, hair and nail strength, skin elasticity… I could go on and on about the benefits of collagen peptides but I’m pretty sure 75% of you are like “just get to the point Kelly”.

So, I’m just going to get to the point… this recipe is one you’ll make time and time again. TRUST. I’ve already made this recipe three times mmk?
